EMCORE Spacecraft Positioning & Control

Leveraging over sixty years of experience and proven performance in systems deployed in space, EMCORE’s CIRUS IRU and IMU deliver state-of-the-art, strategic-grade performance for inertial navigation, guidance, pointing and stabilization for spacecraft attitude control, supporting DoD, NASA and commercial missions. Our quartz MEMS technology makes our MEMS gyroscopes an ideal suite of systems-conscious solutions for spacecraft and critical applications such as terrain navigation in distant locations. These devices are ultra-small in size and operate reliably with low noise and outstanding bias stability. EMCORE’s MEMS gyroscopes are operating on the MARS Rover, illustrative of the reliability and performance success inherent in these ruggedly designed models. Our EMCORE-HawkeyeTM series Fiber Optic Gyros (FOG) and FOG IMUs can also support space-based systems applications.

Cost-Effective, Next-Generation, Strategic-Grade Fiber Optic Gyros

Leveraging over sixty years of experience and proven performance in systems deployed in space, the Compact Inertial Reference Unit for Space (CIRUS) is designed and qualified as the next-generation product of our heritage system. The CIRUS and CIRUS-EX rate sensors deliver two different strategic grades of performance combined with the benefits of a compact, low-cost system in an integral chassis.

Both CIRUS and CIRUS-EX systems feature four Fiber Optic Gyro (FOG) sensors in a fully redundant configuration for spacecraft attitude control, supporting DoD, NASA and commercial missions. The CIRUS and CIRUS-EX are our next generation of IRUs that build on our legacy as the premier supplier of mission-critical precision pointing and navigation systems since the early days of the U.S. space program.

MEMS Miniature Dual-Axis Gyroscope

With one of industry’s smallest form factors, QRS28 couples two of our robust quartz MEMS rate sensors for unprecedented capabilities in wide bandwidth, repeatable bias performance over temperature and ruggedness in most environments. It is especially suited for demanding applications, which require reliable performance, such as missile seeker gimbal stabilization, where small size and low power consumption is required, while in a low cost design that is also ideally suited for high volume commercial applications.

High-Performance Quartz MEMS Gyroscope

The QRS11 is a compact, lightweight design, that features Quartz MEMS technology providing a solid-state gyro offering virtually unlimited life. The QRS11’s combination of high performance and long life makes it well suited for OEM’s and system integrators designing cost-effective, high-performance systems.

The QRS11 requires only DC voltage inputs to provide reliable, extremely accurate angular rate measurements with the benefit of no moving parts. With a hermetically sealed sensing element, the QRS11 has provided reliable performance in aircraft, missile and space systems across many demanding application environments.
